I'm currently in full move mode. That's the main reason I've been barely here. I find myself with a little time to think though. So I figured I'd address this whole James Gunn debacle I've been trying to avoid. If you've managed to miss all this, James Gunn made a series of horrible, total bad taste jokes that I'm not even going to revisit here. However, these were made almost 10 years ago, & had since been apologized for. Fast forward to now, & due to a strong political stance, this information has been resurfaced online to damage Gunn's character. Let the show begin. It worked. Disney immediately severs ties with Gunn. Something I felt was kinda strange if you factor in the questionable things that have been said in the past by a lot of Disney actors. Anyway, the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy rally behind their director. They put out a letter in support of his rehire. Dave Bautista being the most outspoken, at one point all but asking out of his contract. Even Bobcat Goldthwait came out of nowhere asking Disney to remove his voice from an upcoming attraction using his character from Hercules. Stating he knows he's said some questionable things. Told them to check James Woods rep as well. This is where I realized this was going to take awhile to unfold. And it did. Petitions were written. Arguments were all around. Marvel Studios made a plea to Disney to reinstate Gunn. Now for the next foreseeable future Gunn's out, his script's in, & Guardian's of the Galaxy Vol 3 is on full hold without a director. Although it's heavily rumored Taika Waititi may direct. Which seems like the obvious choice, though just not James Gunn. I've been watching this all unfold while moving, & it's pretty troubling. I mean, like I said horrible, distasteful jokes, but does this mean no one should ever get to be redeemed? Apologies were made. This was past. I do fully understand both sides of this. We're stuck in an environment where this could effect the bottom line. The company has to make a decision on that line. This happened way before Gunn & Marvel Studios were a thing though. I get distancing yourself from something that happens while under contract, but doing so for happenings before that agreement seems a little overboard. I feel like this decision is going to come back to haunt them. Gunn at one point was going to help shape the Marvel Cosmic Universe. Not to mention with Vol 3 on hold, what's this do to the MCU lineup as a whole? These films have a planned order. One of the main things that helps them flow so well. How much does this throw off the order? On top of this I don't even want to think about the biggest loss.... Awesome Mix Vol 3. Gunn has put together two of the best soundtracks of all time. I'm really going to miss his setup for 3. All in all, I feel like we lost more than we gained. I won't say this is a shot at free speech. I'll say again, horrible things said. This is more a shot at reformation & redemption. I just feel one shouldn't have to wear a "Scarlet Letter" forever. Especially for words. Anyway, that's my two cents on all this. Would love to know everyone else's thoughts. Put it in the comments, like, & share.
X-Men & Fantastic Four Coming Back Home?!? YES, They Are!! Confirmation Update 12/14
UPDATE 12/24: It's official the 21st Century Fox Deal has gone through. More importantly though, according to the same show this came from in the first place, The John Campea Show, Bob Iger has confirmed not only will X-Men & Fantastic Four be joining the MCU, but Deadpool, the merc with the mouth, will remain rated R. This is awesome. Now what? How do we put them in? Fantastic Four doesn't reach to much, but how do you explain mutants in a world where there has been no mention at all? Do we reboot everything we've already seen? Ooh, what if it's a psychic mind wipe thing? Where something happened, & that's why no one knows about mutants? They could do anything here. I cant wait to see where this goes. Put your thoughts in the comments, like, & share.
John Campea just made a thrilling point. While we're all waiting for the results to the ongoing talks between 21st Century Fox & Disney over many television & movie assets, I didn't even think of this. Those assets will be selling to someone, & when they sell, the rights to Marvel properties won't go with that. According to his understanding of the licensing whether Disney or anyone else buys those, X-Men & Fantastic Four are coming home to Marvel. In fact, the only way to prevent this, is if Fox decides they don't want to sell at all. That's not how it's looking though. So hear we go, the heavy hitters are coming home. This is like when Jordan came out of retirement. Which leads to the elephant in the room. Which Jordan return do we get, 3 more rings or the other guy? Has the damage been done to these properties, or can Marvel Studios save them? It's possible. I think the X-Men has a bigger uphill battle than Fantastic Four. Mainly, since some of those are really good, almost perfect. Putting them up against higher standards than they'll have with Fantastic Four. Fantastic Four seems to be easier to explain & add into the Marvel universe as is, than a whole race of mutants will be as well. That's just my opinion though, & being an avid comic book reader, I can't wait to see how this pans out. What do y'all think? Are y'all excited for this homecoming? Can Marvel Really Bring Back Together The Whole Roster? Talks With Fox?
I will not be the naysayer this time around. When talks were tossed around last time, I said there's no way Sony will come off there little piece of guaranteed box office returns, Spider-Man. Then the studio started hurting & next thing you know there's this joint deal with Marvel & Sony throwing Spidey into the MCU. Now CNBC reports that 21st Century Fox has been holding talks to sell most of the company to Disney. This won't include Fox sports & media outlets. This scaling down to sports & media gives 21st Century Fox a better way to compete in the current media environment. These talks have taken place over the last few weeks. Off right now, but seem to be in an on again, off again situation. No talk of price or how far the talks actually are, but it looks like a potential deal would include the movie studio, TV production, Star, Sky, & entertainment networks such as FX & National Geographic. That's a pretty awesome package. Why's a Disney deal in the Marvel news discussion spot though? Because I can't help but think of the REAL ramifications of this deal. This puts the whole damn Marvel catalog together at Marvel Studios. This will bring home the X-Men & the Fantastic Four, but even more so the giant who's who of villains that come along with them. That's an exciting notion, that will further destroy the odds of newcomers eventually finding a spot to come into the Marvel Universe. Start watching all the films now, because if this happens this thing is going to start growing like a wildfire. The possibilities are endless, & Marvel Studios will do them right. I can't wait to hear more on these talks. This is big! What do y'all think? Does the thought of Marvel getting their whole playground excite you? Or do you think this will be too much to manage?
