Spider-Man Saved For Now As Sony/Marvel Decide To Get Along

Yesterday we learned two things. Sony isn't as dumb as I was starting to think they were, & both them & Marvel Studios/Disney like money. This revelation came with the announcement of Spider-Man remaining in the MCU for a third installment, & another MCU film. Variety's reporting Marvel will get roughly 25% of Sony's solo venture, while also putting about the same towards production this time around. This is a no-brainer, win/win. Sony was missing almost anything that goes with the Tom Holland Spider-Man's plot without Marvel, & though Marvel really had nothing to lose, we like Spider-Man in the MCU. Not to mention Sony would've made a lot of forced decisions because of this, & it might have damaged more than just Spider-Man for them in the long run. Meanwhile, Marvel don’t have to uncomfortably not mention Peter's existence. Hopefully there's a fail safe that writes Spidey out of the MCU by the end of these. Sony/Marvel Studios Spider-Man Split And What I'd Do

With Disney news being scarce on the way to D23, I wasn't expecting anything this significant from Marvel Studios. And well, technically this isn't about them, it's about Sony. I heard this first last night on Collider, but at that point it seemed there was a lot of hope still they could come to something. Today when I woke up though, THR has pretty much confirmed Sony is taking their ball & going home when it comes to Spider-Man. After a long negotiations the webslinger will not be returning to the MCU. Stupid move for Sony in my book, but I can’t say I didn't see it coming. With the Venom & Spiderverse success, & a little time with the borrowed super success of the MCU films, Sony might think they have it figured out now. Who knows what this means for the character. We know a third with Holland should be a given with the billion dollar run of Far From Home, imaginehow that will look if you just strip away all things MCU? No Tony, no Happy, no reference to the Avengers, or even the blip from Thanos' snap. That's a ton of major plot points. They could Spiderverse him. Would anyone want to see that though? They could kill him off early in the next & go Miles Morales proper. I feel like Sony has a lot more to think about right now than Marvel. It's easier to write out a character than to write out all the characters around a character & keep going. It seems to all come down to money in the long run. Marvel wants to bump there 5% to 50%, & that's a hell of a jump. A Sony Spider-Man has never made a billion dollars & climbing though. They topped out at 890 mil with Spider-Man 3. No argument their worst, only getting there due to the success of part 2. Take that & double it you've got 1780. With Far From Home at 1109 & still creeping, we're shy 680 million as of right now to doubling the profits of Sony's best outing with the friendly neighborhood hero. While that's a huge number still, I'm just saying maybe that 50% is crazy, but so is 5%. Negotiations were needed, but like I’ve been saying, I saw this coming. Contract was up after Far From Home. Anything past actually would have been the surprise for me. I just barely started to think a third might happen after how much money this one did make. Not that my thoughts will matter to them, but I think Sony's failing to see that big picture of their losses as of right now. Even if they had to give up more than they wanted now, they should think long run. If Sony was smart they'd have negotiated “Spiderversing” Holland in the end of a MCU third or side entry like Doctor Strange. Even if it's a 1 or 2 film contract to do so. Everyone wins. No missing MCU character, & Sony gets Holland, with story still in tact, to drop in any part of the Spiderverse they please. Teaser Trailer For "Spider-Man: Far From Home" Is Amazing!!

Finally we have got the teaser trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home, the highly anticipated sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming. Marvel really knows how to do these teasers, but at 2 minutes, 47 seconds, this is more a trailer in my book than a teaser. Even though this highly disrupts the ending of Infinity War, we get some major first looks in this trailer. Jake Gyllenhaal looks like Mysterio just got ripped right out of the pages of the comic book. From what Gyllenhaal & Holland say they will be teaming up against the Elementals in this. Those are the "guys" you see them fighting in this teaser. Each one having control of a different element. Personally, in Mysterio fashion, I think this is just a ruse pulled off with his signature special effects. We also not only get a look at Spidey's new suit, but was that a black Spider-Man noirish suit? If you blink you'll miss it, but it was definitely there. The biggest thing I took out of this trailer though was Samuel L Jackson's Nick Fury. Does that cat no how to make an entrance or what? Hands down my favorite part of this trailer. Nick Fury & Maria Hill To Join "Spider-Man: Far From Home"

A lot of dust is returning to the Marvel universe for Spider-Man: Far From Home . Spider-Man will not be the only victim of Thanos's snap to appear in the sequel to the Sony/Marvel collaboration Spider-Man: Homecoming . He will be joined by Samuel L Jackson & Cobie Smulders' Nick Fury & Maria Hill, Agents of SHIELD. I saw this on Vulture earlier, & thought, "that's kinda out of left field." Then I thought about how big the connection between Spider-Man & Nick Fury was in Marvel's Ultimate Universe. He pretty much took the role of MCU Tony Stark in those Bendis fueled stories. There was some great back & forth between those two, that will totally shine on the big screen. I've actually gotten more & more excited about this the more I thought about it. Between this & Jake Gyllenhaal as Mysterio, I'm getting pretty excited for July 5th. Love to know what y'all think though. Put it in the comments, like, & share.

Tom Holland Gets Script For New Spider-Man Film, Only Leaks Title

Tom Holland has been known to let some things slip when it comes to movie spoilers. So when I saw on Instagram that he'd recieved the script for the sequel to Spider-Man Homecoming , I figured I'd wait over the weekend to see of we got more than the title. Alas, we did not. We do now know it's titled Spider-Man: Far From Home though. Probably a nod to reports already telling us this film will take Spidey abroad, but Feige went on to announce like the first, this one has multiple meanings. Which immediately makes me remember that this will be one of the first films chronologically to deal with the fallout of Avengers 4 . Whatever it will be called. Can't believe we got this title before that one. It really must be something special. John Campea also mentioned the what I thought was just the inevitable new costume the other day. Thinking about what he said with the name of the film. It seems a little more of a big deal. He mentioned this suit as a coming of manhood to an extent. Also a form of "far from home". The name's as good as Homecoming was. In which, it's a name. As much as I loved the first movie, that title just never really stuck for me. This one's kinda the same. It's not a bad name, but it doesn't just grab me by title alone either. Movie's still probably going to be great again. I'll just probably once again forget the surname, & go with Spider-Man 2. Jake Gyllenhaal Joins "Spider-Man Homecoming" Sequel (UPDATE)

UPDATE: THR reports the character Gyllenhaal will play is none other than Mysterio. With two of my favorite childhood movies being FX  & FX2 , adding the villain known for special effects use is right up my alley. This is even more exciting than the addition of Gyllenhaal himself. Sinister 6 might finally see the light after all.

Jake Gyllenhaal is finally about to dive into the comic-book universe. Variety reports the Oscar-nominated actor is set to join the sequel to Sony and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Homecoming. It’s currently unknown who he's playing, but sources say he would be the new villain. If so he'll join Michael Keaton, who will be returning to reprise his role of Vulture. Tom Holland is returning to play Peter Parker, with Zendaya and Marisa Tomei also coming back for the sequel. Jon Watts is back as director with Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley taking on the script. I absolutely loved Spider-Man Homecoming . Not only is everyone coming back a plus, but this addition is great. Gyllenhaal has been one of my favorite actors since Donnie Darko. I can't wait to see whose shoes he'll be filling. Tom Holland Seen On Set Of Sony's "Venom"

I can't tell you this means Venom takes place in the official MCU, but according to Jon Schnepp of Collider, the MCU's Spider-Man will be in Sony's upcoming Venom with Tom Hardy. Tom Holland has been seen on set for couple days, & is apparently in the film. This leads to speculation that there could be some set up in this upcoming Avengers: Infinity War. That would be awesome, but just the fact that Spidey is in Venom makes my day. I had a couple of scenarios in my head that could work without the web-slinger, but let's be honest, you can't do Venom without Spider-Man. These are probably the best nemisies in comic books period. It would've been like M&Ms without the candy shell, it would totally melt in your hand. I hope this is even bigger than it seems in the long run. I'm definitely going to be paying it some attention. What's In Store For Spider-Man & The MCU Post "Homecoming"?

Spider-Man: Homecoming definitely isn't crawling in the box office. Surprising analysts with a domestic $117 Million, this thing has definitely marked the successful return of the web-head. What's next in store for Spidey though? A lot's came out since the films release. In an interview with Marvel Head Kevin Feige, when asked about the July 5, 2019 sequel date, he replied, "We are looking at a five-movie storyline: Civil War, Homecoming, Avengers: Infinity War, untitled Avengers, Homecoming 2, or whatever we end up calling it, as an amazing five-story journey for Peter Parker. In the way that the events of Civil War directly inform the opening of Homecoming & his state of mind as he goes back to high school, so too will the events of the next two Avengers movies as he continues with high school. This original 22-movie arc ends with the untitled Avengers in May of 2019 & then two months later it will be Peter & Spider-Man (on July 5, 2019) that usher us into the aftermath & how things proceed from there." How awesome is that? Not only does the 22-movie arc end with the 4th Avengers, but Spider-Man will not only deal with the aftermath 2 months later, it will also start what's next to come. With the Marvel Cosmic universe jumping off with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, that prompted the next question asking what that might entail? To which Feige stayed vague with, "More places to tell stories, more characters to tell stories with. Certainly those stories connect, as we'll see with Infinity War in a very big way. Whatever happens with Vol. 3 & beyond remains to be seen." It sounds to me like they might not be on paper, but there are definitely some plans for Spider-Man even post Homecoming 2. We'll just have to wait & see on that though. More for the future of the wall-crawler comes with some Blu-Ray release news. I thought one of the funniest parts of Spider-Man Homecoming were the Captain America PSAs. Now I'm hearing there are a lot more of those, & not only that, but we're going to get to see them all. The John Campea Vlog says these extras will be available on the Blu-Ray release Homecoming. Like I said, I loved these. They're Captain America being the all-American boy scout, & doing his part to help shape the minds of America's youth. They feel like a play out of Stan Lee's book with just the right amount of "corn". Yet, still fitting the character perfectly. I can't wait to see the rest of these. Two more things have come to light, one being a little "spoilery". I'll start with the first small bit from Cinema Blend. Isabella Amara, Sally Avril of Spider-Man: Homecoming, will be joining the cast of Avengers: Infinity War. She's only back for the first, but in Spidey comics lore her character eventually becomes Bluebird. Obviously not saying this will happen, but they've gotta have some sort of plans for her character right? The last piece of friendly neighborhood news is a little bit of a spoiler I guess, if knowing future names bother you. If so skip the rest of this. Zendaya's character Michelle drops the line in the end of Homecoming that her friends call her MJ. Much like it tends to do the internet exploded. If her initials are MJ, that has to stand for Mary Jane right? Not according to Kevin Feige. He told Den of Geek, "In setting up this will be a very different thing, she's not Mary Jane Watson, that's not who the character is. But giving her the initials that remind you of that dynamic certainly is intriguing about what could go forward." He added more to IGN. In which he said, "We never even looked at it as a big reveal necessarily but more of just a fun homage to his past adventures & his past love. She's not Mary Jane Watson." He adds, there are big reveals in the movie. That's not one of them." Talking future he goes on, "Is she going to date Peter? Are they going to fall in love? She seems to be intrigued with him. There's a nice chemistry there. Who knows what will happen in future films?" I've been saying from the jump initials are just initials. I didn't even think this a big deal when I heard it. It doesn't get more spelled out than that though. She's not Mary Jane. If they want to go different directions with this one they should. I think it's funny how you hear things from the comic circle like, they should use Miles Morales. However, if you change any little aspect of the Parker story you're wrong for that. As long as Peter gets bit by a spider giving him spider-powers, has web-shooters, & annoys the bad guys with his constant quips, I'm almost open to anything else being changed up.
