Surprise surprise. As I've been sayin' from the cancellation of Daredevil during the beginning of the second season of The Punisher, Netflix has canceled the remainder of their Marvel shows. At first I was figuring this was all due to the Disney+ streaming service. However, now with the announcement of the Marvel adult animation coming to Hulu, I'm starting to wonder if they'll wind up there? It seems using Hulu for more adult oriented entertainment would be an easy way to have some separation from the Disney & MCU proper branding. I can't help but think as popular as they are, I'm pretty sure there going somewhere. Then there's Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb's letter to the fans where it seems he's all but saying it himself. In the last paragraph as he thanks the fans he says, "On behalf of everyone at Marvel Television, we couldn't be more proud or more grateful to our audience. Our Network partner may have decided they no longer want to continue telling the tales of these great characters... but you know Marvel better than that. As Matthew Murdock's Dad once said, "The measure of a man is not how he gets knocked to the mat, it's how he gets back up." To be continued...!" Are y'all getting what I'm getting out of that? For me personally, I can only read that as a comeback being inevitable. It's just when & where? Like I said Hulu's my best guess, but either way, I've got a good feeling we haven't seen the end of these stories yet. What do y'all think? Does this sound like we'll see a resurgence? If so, where?
Upcoming "Black Widow" Getting A Rewrite
In a Collider exclusive, The Hustle's Jac Shaeffer's original script for Black Widow is getting a rewrite. According to them Marvel has hired on The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby writer, Ned Benson. Now some people get real nervous when scripts start getting rewrote, but this early in I'm kinda all for it. To me this means they're really trying to get the best final product they can, & they're taking it real seriously. Cate Shortland of Lore is tapped to direct with the great Kevin Feige producing as usual. The film's been reported to take place before the first Avengers film. For me, hopefully giving a sort of origin story to the character. In fact I'd love for it to tackle what made her such a bad ass, & tie it right into where she comes into contact with Fury & S.H.I.E.L.D.. We won't know until its release obviously, but that's at least what I'm hoping for. What about y'all? What do y'all want from a Black Widow standalone? For that matter, do y'all want a Black Widow standalone in the first place? Put it in the comments, like, & share.
Four New Animated Marvel Shows Coming To Hulu Including A Kevin Smith Written "Howard The Duck"
Variety reported four new animated Marvel shows coming to Hulu produced by Marvel TV head, Jeph Loeb. Obviously by the title you can tell which one has me the most excited. Mainly because it's being written & executive produced by the amazing Kevin Smith & Dave Willis, but Howard the Duck by far tops this list for me. In the synopsis given, Howard will be "trapped in a world he never made." He's hoping to return home with the help of gal pal Beverly before the "evil Dr. Bong can turn him the crispiest dish on the menu." Next up is M.O.D.O.K. or Mental Organism Designed Only For Killing. He's a really big, floating head with a really little body. He'll be executive produced & written by Jordan Blum & Patton Oswalt, as he trys to maintain control of his evil organization & family. Second on my list to look forward to, even if M.O.D.O.K. has never really been one of my favorite villains. Third up we start to get off my radar with Hit-Monkey . Where we'll get a Japanese snow monkey, trained by the ghost of an American assassin, as he takes on the Tokyo underworld. This one will be executive produced by Josh Gordon & Will Speck. I don't even know what to think much less expect with that one. Finally we've got Tigra & Dazzler . This didn't come with a synopsis, but it's executive produced & written by Erica Rivinoja & Chelsea Handler. This grabs my attention as I used to be a really big Chelsea Lately fan. On top of all this, they will eventually combine to form The Offenders in yet another, team up series. With this already being labeled as for adults, & popping up on Hulu instead of Disney+, I have a feeling these are going to be pull no punches hilarious. With Disney now having controlling interest in Hulu we could see these for awhile, spawning even more titles if they're good. I'm pretty intrigued to see how this pans out. What about y'all? "Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3" Using James Gunn's Script
I'm honestly not quite sure how to take this. Saw this on Collider last night. According the the words of Starlord, Chris Pratt himself, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will still be using James Gunn's submitted script. First off, I don't really see how he can be sure they're working off that script when as far as we know there's no director attached. Unless that falls under the realm of things going on we just don't know yet. Second when whomever said director dies emerge there's no telling how much the final product will deter from this script. Just ask Snyder about Justice League, things can drastically change under new direction. Overall though, I can't help but take this as the icing on the cake of a totally mishandled series of events. Your telling me one can be fired as director due to things that happened years before hiring, but their script is still A-Ok? Sounds hypocritical as all hell if you ask me. Maybe Disney/Marvel Studios thinks this gesture will save face with fans, & potential directors, as it seems the latter is becoming harder to find. I don't know. Whatever it is I find myself crossed to say the least. I love Guardians of the Galaxy , both parts 1 & 2. They're two of my favorite installments in the MCU. So part if me is glad they're using Gunn's script. On the other end however, will a lot of it get lost in translation without Gunn's direction to guide it where it needs to be. Not to mention the man is an absolute genius when it comes to making an "Awesome Mixtape". Anyway love to know anymore thoughts on this. Put 'em in the comments, like, & share.
The Future Of X-Men And R Rated Superheroes From Fox
So, there have been a lot of things on everyone's mind since the purchase of Fox by Disney when it comes to the Marvel universe. First & foremost, I thought this would be a given. According to Bob Iger Fox's ultra popular R rated superhero films will keep going forward. Namely Deadpool . However, I'm sure they will go on under a separate banner than the Disney owned Marvel. Some think the name Fox will stay, I'm leaning more towards a rebirth of the Marvel Knights division, but we'll have to see. The big news is Deadpool's R rating is safe. The second big Fox/Marvel news answers an even bigger question for me. In an interview with Collider, Lauren Shuler Donner addressed the state of the X-Men since the purchase. Obviously we're still getting the possible train wreck that will be Dark Phoenix & New Mutants is done however which way we receive it. After that everything is up in the air though as she states all further X-Men projects are on hold. She's hoping we hear something post Avengers: Endgame , & even more so she Hope's we're going in a different direction than we already went. No one will know until the inevitable big announcement, but I'm thinking this is a good thing. At least we know they're prepared to take this seriously, & give it some real thought. I want a series of X-Men in the MCU, but more so than that, I want it to be consecutively good. As of now we have a hodge podge of great, mediocre, & bad X-Men films. None of which having any real form of continuity. As the X-Men have always been my favorite Marvel property, I would love to see then get the level of MCU consistency we've grown to expect. What do y'all think though? Are you more excited for the continuation of Deadpool & possibly other R rated heroes? Or the fact that it seems a lot of thought is going into reimagining some quality X-Family titles? Put it in the comments, like, & share.
Big Game TV Spot For "Captain Marvel"
First was the Superbowl TV spot for Avengers: Endgame . Now we get another for Captain Marvel . Matching the same intensity of the Endgame trailer, jamming a whole lot into 30 seconds, & at the same time not showing much more than we've already seen. In fact, besides Coulson & Fury going airborne, I could only catch scenes we've already seen. Maybe stretched out one way or another, but nothing really new. The quick scene jump is really working for these though. It delivers in 30 seconds a more appealing trailer than we've got in all the longer ones in my opinion. Both these trailers seem to have an intensity to them that let's you know something big is going down. If you can't tell I really dug this look. Even if it was missing Goose the cat. What'd y'all think? Put it in the comments, like, & share.
"Avengers: Endgame" Big Game TV Spot
Here's our next look at Avengers: Endgame that came out for Superbowl Sunday. It's definitely a blink & you'll miss it look, but I'm cool with that. I don't really want to see a lot of this one. At least, until I'm sitting in the theater. In this quick look though, we do get a couple big things. We get a look at a rather empty world left behind by Thanos. Half empty to be exact. We also see a quick glimpse of Tony Stark & Nebula helping each other to piece together their space shuttle. They also give us a shot of the remaining Avengers following Captain America. I'll have to watch this a few more times to see if I blinked & missed anything else. All in all, I like that they kept it small here. Awesome trailer to be crammed into 30 seconds. Check it out. If you catch anything big I missed let me know. Put it in the comments, like, & share.
New Film Clip From "Captain Marvel"
Marvel Studios released a new film clip from Captain Marvel, & in all honesty, it just seems like a strange clip to release. It's dead in the middle of a multiple chase scene. Young Nick Fury & Phil Coulson are chasing Captain Marvel as she's chasing what is most likely an undercover Skrull. It's probably very early in the film, due to her wearing her StarForce colors & not the blue, red, & gold costume, but it's just an odd snippet. It starts from nothing & pretty much ends from nothing. I do think it's awesome how much this looks like a throwback to the more modern-era Marvel films. It totally has a 90s vibe to the look of everything. Hell, it almost even looks like it was filmed in the 90s. Anyway, beings there's no context the clip really, it's neither good nor bad in my book. Just a strange clip to release once again. What do y'all think? As movie advertisement, would this steer you one way or the other? Put it in the comments, like, & share.
First Look At Season 6 Of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."
Not even sure what I just watched when it comes to the Season 6 first look of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D . Mack is running the show with Coulson's death, but the majority of the trailer seemed to be in space hunting for Fitz. Who is in his frozen sleep trying to save the future. All the space travel seems like we're becoming Agents of S.W.O.R.D., Marvel comics space watchers. Think S.H.I.E.L.D in the stars, but the thing that really has me confused is the apparent return of a non-Coulson, Coulson in the end, & some kaleidoscope weirdness halfway in. My best guess is both have to do with the black hole looking object we see. Won't know for sure until this summer when the show returns to ABC. I've been more hit than miss with this show, as it's had a couple rocky points. Overall the show's been pretty consistently good over its first 5 seasons. Phil Coulson has been a driving force to that success however. So, I've got my fingers crossed to see if they can keep it up after his character's demise. Y'all's thoughts on season 6 virtually minus Phil Coulson? Put 'em in the comments, like, & share.
"Doctor Strange" Writer Sheds Some Light On Possible Sequel Direction
One of my favorite Marvel Cinematic movies has to be Doctor Strange . So you can imagine my excitement at the return of the team that made the original. According to comicbook.com, returning screenwriter C. Robert Cargill is set to submit a script for approval to Marvel Studios to await approval. If approved he'll reteam with director Scott Derrickson shooting for a May 7th, 2021 release. They also mention during a Q&A with That Hashtag Show he threw out some details of what his sequel will be exploring. His current plan is for Nightmare to be the villain, eventually leading back to Baron Mordo. The latter of which he went on to add, ""For those of you who have ever read the comics, you know that Baron Mordo has a very particular arc, and that's something we discussed with Chiwetel while working on the first movie." Then adding, "And part of the reason Chiwetel wanted to play Mordo was because he has a definitive ending as a character and it's such a fascinating ending. And I do know that whether we're attached or not, that Marvel plans on working towards that ending and fully realizing Mordo as more than just a cardboard cutout villain, but actually taking him to kind of Loki levels of awesomeness. That's the goal with him." This is by far the biggest part of all this for me. I loved the build of Baron Mordo's character in the first film, & to know that Cargill or not, Marvel has plans to fully realize his character totally makes my day. Chiwetel was amazing in that role. To think they're going to let him take it to "Loki" levels has totally ramped up my excitement for the sequel & beyond. What are y'all's thoughts on these developments? Are you excited for the possibility of the original writer/director team returning, or the future of Baron Mordo? Do you think he could reach Loki levels? Put it in the comments, like, & share.
Teaser Trailer For "Spider-Man: Far From Home" Is Amazing!!
Finally we have got the teaser trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home, the highly anticipated sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming. Marvel really knows how to do these teasers, but at 2 minutes, 47 seconds, this is more a trailer in my book than a teaser. Even though this highly disrupts the ending of Infinity War, we get some major first looks in this trailer. Jake Gyllenhaal looks like Mysterio just got ripped right out of the pages of the comic book. From what Gyllenhaal & Holland say they will be teaming up against the Elementals in this. Those are the "guys" you see them fighting in this teaser. Each one having control of a different element. Personally, in Mysterio fashion, I think this is just a ruse pulled off with his signature special effects. We also not only get a look at Spidey's new suit, but was that a black Spider-Man noirish suit? If you blink you'll miss it, but it was definitely there. The biggest thing I took out of this trailer though was Samuel L Jackson's Nick Fury. Does that cat no how to make an entrance or what? Hands down my favorite part of this trailer. Helluva first tease though. I knew there was a reason this made my top ten anticipated list for this year! What about y'all? Did this move you one way or the other on this? Put it in the comments, like, & share.
"The Vision And Scarlet Witch" Series Has A Writer/Showrunner
One of the real interesting things announced for the Disney+ streaming service was a slew of Marvel Cinematic Universe series. One of which being The Vision and Scarlet Witch has just took some more steps forward announcing Jan Schaeffer as the writer/showrunner in a Hollywood Reporter exclusive. If that name doesn't ring a bell, she's one if the Captain Marvel writers, & she penned the screenplay for the Black Widow film currently under development. Personally, I'm a little surprised at this lengthy resume, before even Captain Marvel's release, but I'm their faith is well placed in the co-writer of Olaf's Frozen Adventure . Paul Betanny & Elizabeth Olsen are expected to reprise their roles from the films. This in a series which I'm very curious as to the budgets of. Anyway, what do y'all think? Would you like to see an actual track record before this from the showrunner like we have with Favreau & The Mandalorian ? Or do you think this is a good choice, & Marvel must know what they're doing? For that matter, are you excited for a Vision/Scarlet Witch love story in the first place? Personally, I'm a little back & forth on it myself. Their relationship never really did it for me on the books. Hopefully, they can pull it off better in a series. Put your thoughts in the comments though, & don't forget to like & share.
Official Trailer For Marvel's "The Punisher" Season 2 On Netflix
I hate to say this in a world where every single Marvel show on Netflix has been cancelled. With this first trailer for the second season of The Punisher , I really wasn't as impressed as I'd have liked to be. I can't put my finger on exactly what it is that doesn't do it for me here, but just off top, Jon Berthal doesn't come off as the Frank Castle of we've known from Daredevil or the even the first season for that matter. Not to mention I'm hating the look of the guy we're not going to officially call Jigsaw. Maybe it was those two things mixed with the excess in daylight scenes. Combine that with that fact that I personally think this one will join the void of cancellation the others were thrown into after this season, & it's real hard to get excited. And that's coming from someone who thought the first season was one of Netflix's best so far, save the first season of Daredevil . Anyway, I so hope this proves me wrong. I want this to be good. Hell, great even. The Punisher was one of my favorite comics when I was a kid. So, that said, I've still got my fingers crossed. Curious though, what did y'all think of the trailer? Put it in the comments, like, & share.
Another Featurette For "Captain Marvel" Shows Pieces Of Larson's Intense Workouts
This was one of the most insane featurettes I've seen Marvel do so far. Mainly because you get a glimpse of the 9+ month workout regimen it took to become Captain Marvel . We tend to forget what these actors/actresses have to go through to become our super heroes. Even this small look made me tired just watching. Like most of these featurettes, you also get a synopsis of the character, along with some behind the scenes with the actors & directors, & a couple quick shots that weren't in the trailers. Some of the quick scenes definitely should've hit the trailer. If that special look earlier didn't have me on board, this definitely did. I've already got my tickets for opening day. Had a little trouble too. If you're in a big area like I am, theaters are filling up fast. Major respect to those involved after seeing this though. Especially Larson, it sounds like she went through a lot for this one. Thoughts? Put it in the comments, like, & share.
Marvel Studios' Special Look At "Captain Marvel" Is My Favorite So Far!
Captain Marvel has had its ups & downs with me so far. In the last trailers I mentioned that "powered up" she looked awesome, but otherwise Brie Larson just looked kinda bored. On top of that Samuel L Jackson was stealing the scene left and right. Not the case with this newly released "Special Look". Jackson's still great, but this trailer gave some life to Larson out of full costume. Their back & forth seemed much more natural this time around. Leading me to hope I only felt that way in the first ones due to how the snippets were cut. I absolutely loved the Jukebox scene they put in here, not to mention the SHIELD logo quip. Comedic scenes aside though, this first foray into the cosmic side of the Marvel universe looks pretty intense this time around. You get more looks at her while team as well as some more of the training with Jude Law. Still no clear consensus on Law's character though. I'm still leaning towards Mar-Vell, even with the Yon-Rogg Funko "mishap". I keep thinking that was either misdirection or we're going to get a combination of the characters with the film's release. Making it a huge Spoiler instead. I digress though, back to the trailer. Which is hands down the first one for this film I've absolutely loved start to finish so far. It has totally renewed my excitement for this release. I also can't help but think this isn't as much set up for Captain Marvel in Avengers: Endgame as it is set up for the future of Marvel Studios as a whole. If this is what I think it is, it could be setting us up for the next major event post-Endgame . Those who are enriched in the actual Marvel comics probably already know where I'm going with this, but I think a "Secret Invasion" might've already occurred. Our heroes futures, based on this one's past might just be dealing with the ramifications. Anyways, as of now that's just speculation. So on another note, what did y'all think of this special look? Was it special enough for ya? Put it in the comments, like, & share.
The Trailer Is Here, And Your Title Is "Avengers: Endgame"
Wow..... Wow. Wow. Wow. This trailer was everything I wanted it to be & more. I thought it was just going to be a teaser. Figured it was definitely going to end after Tony/Iron Man's message is space, but no. It just kept going. Finally giving us the title, & yes, it's one of the heavily rumored ones, Avengers: Endgame. This is how you launch off something this big. This gave me goosebumps. In fact, I've never had a preview put me through so many emotions all at once. If you want to know why I wasn't totally feelin' the Captain Marvel trailer, this is why. This is the caliber of trailer we should be at. I should want to jump up & see the film now, & not now, but right now. I could do with just this, & absolutely no more until this film come out. Perfect opening trailer. All the feels, & then ending on a comedic note. Loved it!! I can't even say anything else. Just hurry & come out! What do y'all think? Put it in the comments, like, & share.
New Trailer For Marvel Studio's "Captain Marvel" Debuted Last Night
After finding out that Jude Law is in fact not playing Mar-Vell as everyone previously thought via a Pop Vinyl release, I was really looking forward to this new Captain Marvel trailer. For those who don't know the Pop figure I'm mentioning was named Yon-Rogg. Funny thing is this is the exact opposite of playing Mar-Vell, as he was his nemesis. According to ScreenRant, Marvel was not so happy about this apparent leak, & the Pop figure's name has now been changed to Star Commander. So, still not 100%, but I'm just gonna guess a form a Yonn-Rogg is the safe bet. Anyway, back to the matter at hand, this new trailer. I was a little underwhelmed this time around. Don't get me wrong, I really liked it. I was just expecting to be blown away. In fact besides the last couple of scenes where Captain Marvel's tearing ass through space, I honestly thought Samuel L. Jackson's young Nick Fury totally stole the the trailer. On top of that, it doesn't help Larson almost seems bored at times here. I'm still feel like the finished product is going to be great. This trailer just didn't give me the feeling that most Marvel trailers do. I do feel like this is going to be the most "comic-book" thing we've seen so far in the somewhat grounded reality of the MCU so far. I think this is really going to test what they can do next in the form of expanding the universe into the wide world of weird that is the whole of Marvel comics. Believe me when I say we haven't even scratched the surface of where Marvel can go. So, all in all, I liked the trailer. I was hoping to love it, but it's a just a commercial. No real reflection on the final product. They put out an awesome looking poster though. But really, I'm curious to know, what are y'all's thoughts? Put it in the comments, like, & share.
First Teaser For Marvel's "Runaways: Season 2" On Hulu
Oh man, oh man. Marvel's Runaways first season was by far the best Marvel show that I wanted to see more of. Every other thing Marvel has on TV seems to end on a contained note where the story really doesn't have to go anywhere else. Or a note where I don't care what happens next. Not this one, I couldn't get enough of this show, & when it ended? I found myself left begging for more. My wants have been answered in the form of this awesome teaser for Runaways: Season 2 . This looks like it's going to blow away what was set up in the first season. December 21 is officially on my calendar now. I definitely won't be missing this. Check it out, & tell me what you think? Put it in the comments, like, & share.
Remembering Stan "The Man" Lee
I was waiting on writing this. I found myself getting to choked up & not knowing what to say. Hell, where to begin even. Then this video Marvel just released remembering Stan brought me to tears, & I just figured there would never be a good time. That said, this man meant every bit as much to my life as Walt Disney himself. Not for what he's done, more so for what he has helped shape myself & many others into. People like Stan are so few & far between. Especially ones who have the power to touch so many lives like Stan Lee has. He was the true hero of all his stories. He helped teach me lessons no teacher would've taught. From the equality views of the X-Men, the think for yourself & do the right thing politics of Captain America, all the way to great power coming with great responsibility of Spider-Man & more. Stan Lee shaped so many aspects of my life. He says he "wanted them to feel like buying a Marvel book was like visiting an old friend." Well, so long old friend, thank you, & wherever you are keep telling your stories.
Variety Reports Loki, Scarlet Witch, & More Coming To Disney Streaming
Not sure what to think of this one. With no comment from Marvel or Disney, in a Variety exclusive, early development has begun on a number of Marvel limited series. While name dropping Loki & Scarlet Witch, the article points to Marvel looking at a cast of second tier (no standalone movie) MCU characters for 6 to 8 episode series for their streaming service coming next year. This is where it gets crazy. Apparently the actors from the MCU such as, Tom Hiddleston & Elizabeth Olsen are expected to portray their roles for these series, with Kevin Feige being hands on as well. The budgets, along with anything else really were kept quiet, but if all this is real, the figure must be astronomical for a series. Disney is showing a lot of determination/throwing in tons of money in getting this streaming service to work, & do so as fast as possible. If this is true? They've got my money that they've already had that much more so. This sounds amazing! If this is true, they're finding a way to really make the MCU feel like comic books themselves. Some stories are miniseries, some one shots, & I can't wait to soak up everything i can. So for now let's act like this is happening for sure, & let me know what you think? Are we down for some MCU B-sides? Put it in the comments, like, & share.
